First plastic card
The forerunners: In 1964, the company KUNZ Kunststoffverarbeitung GmbH launched the very first plastic card in Austria for Peugeot.

Takeover of KUNZ GmbH
The beginnings of Airdentify stem from a long history of family businesses. The origins lie in the takeover of KUNZ GmbH by Frank Dorner, who together with SKIDATA AG, which he founded, developed the first thermo-marked plastic card with a magnetic strip.

Invention of the card printer
The invention of the card printer by Frank Dorner laid the foundation for today's card production. Even then, the newly renamed company Digicard GmbH was a leader in technological innovations and digitalisation.

Generation change
Plantaplast GmbH was founded by Michael Dorner in 2005. This laid the foundation for today's VariusSystems.

Foundation of VariusCARD GmbH
Since 2011, the company has been called Variuscard Produktions- und Handels GmbH. Since then, the name has been emblematic of the company's main activity.

CRM and complete solutions
Since 2012, Variuscard also offered the handling of complete direct mailings, from the order form to the mailing of the cards. With this foray into CRM or customer data management, the company now offered its customers sophisticated complete solutions.

Strategic considerations led to the establishment of three new business divisions in 2016. With Variusprint, VariusSystems and Variustronics, the company once again underlined its adaptability and pioneering role in promising technologies.

ID Solutions and Security
Increasing global security concerns and the associated expansion of the ID card market led Variuscard and VariusSystems to expand the identification/security features segment. The focus was increasingly on high-security ID solutions and entry into new markets.

Foundation of VariusSystems GmbH
In 2020, the increasingly large and important software department VariusSystems was spun off and founded as an independent sister company to Variuscard. In addition to many system solutions for municipalities, events, museums, etc., Covid Test Management Software for laboratories, municipalities and companies was developed out of necessity.

Foundation of Airdentify SE
Founded in 2021, Airdentify SE specialises in transforming analogue identification processes into the digital age. The 100% subsidiary VariusSystems GmbH with its cloud-based database solutions is at the heart of this.

Future outlook
In addition to the continuous development of the Covid Test Management Software and the opening up of new markets abroad, work continues on various cloud-based database solutions, especially in the area of identification solutions and personal and product tracking and verification.
